Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Camping Trip Survey

Who's coming?

Roadtrip there:

1. Who's never been camping before? I dunno. I know I have, though.

2. Who's sitting where?
Driver: Dave
Shotgun: Manda
Backseat: Spence
Backseat 2: Ally
Middle Backseat: Me
Whos in the trunk/boot: Rob

3. You stop at a gas station for snacks, who gets what? I would get some cookies, Ally would get some food, Spence would get some sort of drink, Manda would by something useless, Rob would too, and Dave would by a Toblerone.

At the Campgrounds:

1. Who complains that there won't be enough electrical outlets for their hair straightener, blow dryer, phone charger, etc. at the campground washrooms? Ally.

2. You encounter a bear. Who remains calm, who immediately starts screaming and has a mental breakdown, and who chases after the bear with a tranquilizer gun? Me and Dave would remain calm, Ally, Spence, and Rob would ahve the breakdowns, and Manda would get the gun after her breakdown.

3. Time for a hike!
Who would rather sit behind and "guard the campground"? Ally.

Who's leading? Me.
Who's arguing over which way you should go? Spence would prolly argue with me. Maybe Manda too.
Who wanders off, gets lost, and ends up having the forest rangers come save them? Manda.x)
Who purposely tries to sneak away? Manda and Dave.

4. Canoeing. Who:
Is too scared to get in the canoe? ...I dunno. Maybe Spence, since he cant swim well.
Loses a paddle in the middle of the lake? Manda.
Who has been snapping pictures the whole canoe ride? Ally. Maybe Rob too.
Who's been purposely trying to tip the canoe? Me.

5. Campfire. Who:
Nearly burns down the entire forest trying to start the campfire? About all of us.
Who starts singing campfire songs so loud that the neighbouring campers report you to the forest rangers? Me, Manda, and Ally.
Who eats all of the smores/marshmellows/hotdogs? Prolly Dave.
Who forgets to put out the fire when everyone goes to bed and is reported yet again to the forest rangers? Ally.

6. Who's sleeping where?
Campervan: Me, Ally, and prolly Spence.
Tent: Dave and Manda.
In a tree: Rob.
Outside: Rob.

7. Who ends up waking up in the middle of the lake on an air mattress like Meredith in "The Parent Trap"? Ally.

Time to go home!
1. Who sleeps all the way home? Spence.
2. Who won't stop talking? Me and Manda.
3. Whos singing at the top of their lungs to the radio all the way home? Me, Manda, and Ally.
4. Who do you realize you forgot after you get back home? Rob.
